Today, we are announcing our new set of trust standards and the formation of our trust advisory group to advance artificial intelligence that aligns with human flourishing. These elements are key components of our broader Gloo Open strategy, which promotes open access to AI research, models, and datasets. Together, these initiatives reinforce our commitment to advancing values-aligned, open-sourced AI built for trust.

Our Chairman, Pat Gelsinger—former CEO of Intel and a pioneer behind widely accepted standards for technologies like USB and WiFi—believes that trusted, values-aligned AI can become the norm when quality, safety, and performance standards are combined with measurable benchmarks.

It requires technology that is high performing, dependable, and secure, while also aligning with users’ values and ethically advancing collective human flourishing,” said Gelsinger. “I'm calling on our peers in the AI industry to drive rapid improvements in AI performance while ensuring that AI consistently uphold the core principles of human flourishing.”

Flourishing AI Standards

Our new Flourishing AI (FAI) standards were created to evaluate an AI model’s ability to promote human flourishing across seven dimensions. Developed in collaboration with the Human Flourishing Program, Barna Group, these standards measure six dimensions—relationships, meaning, happiness, character, finances, and health—grounded in the work of the Human Flourishing Program at Harvard. The seventh dimension, spirituality, is informed by research from faith-based organizations and studies like REVEAL and Barna research. By integrating these frameworks, the FAI standards offer a holistic way to gauge how effectively AI models align with principles that support human well-being.

Flourishing AI Benchmark

Our Flourishing AI standards are paired with the FAI benchmark, which uses a weighted approach to produce a comprehensive overall metric. With over 1,000 curated questions in various formats, the benchmark will rigorously assess the performance of popular LLMs across all dimensions of human flourishing.

We are also proud to collaborate with partners like the Global Flourishing Study—a five-year international initiative driven by organizations such as the Human Flourishing Program at Harvard, Baylor University, and Gallup. Spanning 22 countries, involving over 200,000 participants, and backed by more than $40 million in funding, this study has been instrumental in shaping our framework. In addition, we are working closely with dozens of key faith organizations—including representatives from Protestant, Catholic, and ecumenical groups—to build momentum and alignment around these standards.

Dr. Tyler VanderWeele, Professor at Harvard and Head of the Human Flourishing Program, shared his perspective on our new trust standards:

Barna is another key collaborator on the Flourishing AI standards. Barna has been partnering with Gloo to adapt and enable adoption of the seven dimensions of human flourishing so faith-based organizations can have common growth metrics to better serve their people.

AI Trust Advisory Group

Along with the launch of the FAI standards and benchmark, we are also forming our trust advisory group which will guide Gloo and other technology companies pursuing ethical, values-aligned AI development. This advisory group brings together diverse leaders with expertise in AI, security and privacy, law, academia, and theology. The formalization of this group comes after years of convening these subject matter experts from organizations like YouVersion, Barna, Palantir, Carnegie Mellon University, Biola, Catholic Institute of Technology, and NASA all in the name of pursuing ethical AI frameworks. More details on the work of this group, including official members, will be announced in a future release.
